On October 28, 2025, this year’s JobHub IT, the career fair for students of computer science and IT-related degree programs, took place in the Schloss Foyer in Münster. Students from all semesters had the opportunity to learn about internships, thesis projects in cooperation with companies, and career entry opportunities in the IT sector. The event provided an excellent platform to connect with potential employers and establish valuable contacts for future career paths.

Am 28. Oktober 2025 fand die diesjährige JobHub IT, die Karrieremesse für Studierende der Informatik und IT-bezogener Studiengänge, im Foyer des Schlosses in Münster statt. Studierende aller Semester hatten die Gelegenheit, sich über Praktika, Abschlussarbeiten in Zusammenarbeit mit Unternehmen sowie über Karriereeinstiegsmöglichkeiten in der IT-Branche zu informieren. Die Veranstaltung bot eine ideale Plattform, um mit potenziellen Arbeitgebern ins Gespräch zu kommen und wertvolle Kontakte für den späteren Berufseinstieg zu knüpfen.

Prof. Jan vom Brocke, Chair of Information Systems and Business Process Management, been awarded the SBE Research Prize for outstanding research achievements. Around 50 guests attended the award ceremony. In his laudatory speech, Prof. Bernd Hellingrath praised Jan vom Brocke for his exceptional international visibility, his outstanding commitment to the scientific community and his innovative approaches to solving urgent challenges in business and society.

Prof. Jan vom Brocke, Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Wirtschaftsinformatik und Geschäftsprozessmanagement, ist für herausragende Forschungsleistungen mit dem FB4-Forschungspreis ausgezeichnet worden. An der feierlichen Verleihung nahmen rund 50 Gäste teil. Prof. Bernd Hellingrath würdigte Jan vom Brocke in seiner Laudatio für seine außergewöhnliche internationale Sichtbarkeit, sein herausragendes Engagement für die wissenschaftliche Community und seine innovativen Lösungsansätze zur Bewältigung dringender Herausforderungen in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft.

With its ‘Update Wirtschaft’, the School of Business and Economics has successfully created a new format for discussing future issues, economic developments and social contexts. The opening topic, ‘AI disruption – how artificial intelligence is changing the rules of the game in the markets,’ was met with great interest: around 150 attendees filled the Forum Oeconomicum to capacity.

Mit dem „Update Wirtschaft“ hat die Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät erfolgreich ein neues Format für den Austausch über Zukunftsfragen, wirtschaftliche Entwicklungen und gesellschaftliche Zusammenhänge geschaffen. Das Auftaktthema „Die KI-Disruption – Wie Künstliche Intelligenz die Spielregeln der Märkte verändert“ stieß auf große Resonanz: Rund 150 Interessierte sorgten für ein voll besetztes Forum Oeconomicum.

For her volunteer work and academic achievements, Tran Ha Linh Phan has been awarded the DAAD Prize 2025 by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The Vietnamese student has been pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems at the University of Münster since the winter semester 2022/23.

Für ihr ehrenamtliches Engagement und ihre akademischen Leistungen hat der Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD)  Tran Ha Linh Phan mit dem DAAD-Preis 2025 ausgezeichnet. Die Vietnamesin studiert seit dem Wintersemester 2022/23 im Bachelor Wirtschaftsinformatik an der Universität Münster und arbeitet als Mitglied der UNICEF-Hochschulgruppe ehrenamtlich im Social-Media-Team und organisiert Spendenläufe sowie Projekte mit Kooperationspartnern. Der DAAD-Preis für hervorragende Leistungen internationaler Studierender an deutschen Hochschulen ist mit 1.000 Euro dotiert.

Prof. Dr. Martin Artz, Head of the Institute of Management Accounting and Control at the University of Münster, has received the Best Management Accounting Paper Award from the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association. The award was granted jointly to Prof. Artz and his co-authors Jens Böke (Research Assistant at the Institute of Prof. Artz), Martin Holzhacker (Michigan State University), and Michal Matějka (Arizona State University).

Prof. Dr. Nadine Riedel, Head of the Institute for Public and Regional Economics at the University of Münster, has published an article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung entitled “The Proposed Tax Incentives Against Labor and Skilled Worker Shortages Are Only a Partial Measure”, together with Johanna Hey (University of Cologne), Martin Jacob (IESE Business School Barcelona), and Dominika Langenmayr (Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt). All four authors are members of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Federal Ministry of Finance.

Prof. Dr. Nadine Riedel, Leiterin des Instituts für Wirtschaftspolitik und Regionalökonomik an der Universität Münster, hat in der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung einen Beitrag mit dem Titel „Die geplanten Steueranreize gegen Arbeits‑ und Fachkräftemangel sind nur Stückwerk“ veröffentlicht, gemeinsam mit Johanna Hey (Universität Köln), Martin Jacob (IESE Business School Barcelona) und Dominika Langenmayr (Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt). Alle vier Autor*innen gehören dem wissenschaftlichen Beirat beim Bundesfinanzministerium an.

In a joint guest article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), Martin Watzinger, Monika Schnitzer, and Ariel Dora Stern commented on the opportunity to attract more top US researchers to Germany. According to the three professors, the new US administration has taken measures since taking office that will lead to drastic cuts in science funding. They advocate attracting these scientists to German universities and research institutions.

SAP has introduced a comprehensive new performance evaluation system – and sparked a broad debate in the process. Employees will now be divided into three categories: the exceptional, the satisfactory, and those who need to improve. Prof. Dr. Martin Artz, Institute of Management Accounting & Control, gives his assessment from a scientific perspective in an article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) newspaper on March 17, 2025. He has been studying performance evaluation systems in companies for years and sees SAP's reform as a development with a double effect: “Such systems can motivate – but they also carry the risk of performance pressure and demotivation.”

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) published a joint guest article on March 31 by Prof. Peter Kajüter, Chair of International Accounting, at the University of Münster, and Barbara E. Weißenberger, Chair of Business Administration, specializing in Controlling and Accounting, at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. In it, they describe the extent to which today's VUCA world is forcing a new self-image of controlling as a functional anchor for performance management.

The planned introduction of the digital euro is sparking controversial debates, especially on social media. While conspiracy theories speak of an impending “digital dictatorship,” experts point out that no final decisions have been made yet. Prof. Schneider, Professor of Finance at the University of Münster, also comments on this in an article in the Tagesschau.

On April 3, 2025, 12 schoolgirls took part in Girls' Day at the Institute for Information Systems and embarked on a journey through the world of information systems. Mitarbeitende aus verschiedenen Bereichen des Instituts hatten für die Schülerinnen ein spannendes Programm zusammengestellt. Girls' Day – Girls' Future Day is a nationwide campaign in which girls from the 5th grade onwards can learn about professions and fields of study in which women have been underrepresented to date – especially in technology, IT, skilled trades, and natural sciences. The aim is to break down gender-related career choice stereotypes and open up new perspectives for the future.

In the latest episode of the “Born & Kepler” podcast, Andreas Deptolla and Prof. Benedikt Berger (Assistant Professor of Digital Transformation and Society) discuss the real challenges and opportunities of using artificial intelligence (AI) in business and society. Prof. Berger shares insights from his academic career and highlights current developments in the media landscape, including the influence of influencers, new platforms, and current trends.

Today marks the start of the conclave in Rome, at which 133 cardinals of the Catholic Church will elect a new pope. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung has published an economic analysis to make the strictly confidential process easier to understand. One of the experts quoted in Alexander Wulfers' article is Prof. Thomas Apolte, holder of the Chair of Political Economy at the University of Münster.
